He returned to Ontario, New York, and employment at Eastman Kodak Company. He had corresponded with Lorraine Barth during the War, through friends Joe and Georgette Taylor, from Rochester, NY. He dated her following his return to New York. They were married on June 15, 1945, at Colgate Rochester Divinity School in Rochester, Monroe County, New York.

Ernie enjoyed his hobbies of golf, fishing, and bowling. Ernie joined the Masonic Organization. He and Lorraine had children in the early 1950's; Joyce, Janice (deceased), and Lee. Lorraine and Ernie were divorced in 1962. Ernie was remarried to an Alice McNulty on August 28, 1970. Ernie was not particularly happy in this marriage, however. He took early retirement from Kodak in 1978. At this time, he enjoyed going to garage sales, and saw more of his children, as they had grown up. He was married to Lorraine Maxine Barth on 15 Jun 1945 in Rochester, Monroe County, New York. Lorraine Maxine Barth was born on 28 Aug 1922 in Elmira Heights, Chemung County, New York. She was a Secretary, homemaker.. She was educated Southside High School, Elmira, New York. She was Methodist, Bluff Point Methodist Church, Bluff Point, N. Y.. Lorraine Maxine Barth was born at home in Elmira Heights, Chemung County, New York on August 28, 1922, oldest child of Annabel Scarborough Barth and Harry Franklin Barth. Lorraine was raised in the Elmira area. She was joined by brothers Richard Dale Barth in 1926, and Robert McClain Barth in 1931, also on August 28, 1931, Lorraine's 9th birthday. The family moved briefly to Cleveland Ohio when Lorraine was 13, for one year, and then returned to their home on Laurel Street in Elmira, New York. Lorraine took a secretarial program in High School, then graduated from Southside High School in Elmira, New York in June, 1940. She worked for one year in Elmira, and then moved to Rochester, New York with her family, when her father took a job in Rochester with Eastman Kodak Company. Lorraine worked as an executive secretary for Herbert Waggershauser. She was married to Ernest Lee Wiedrich on June 15, 1945. She worked at Kodak until 1951, when she decided to concentrate efforts on having a family. She was a mother and homemaker to Joyce, Lee, and later to Joanne Carol Mason, after her divorce, in February 1962; marrying Judson Mason on September 22, 1962. They honeymooned in Bermuda. Lorraine and Jud loved doing things with the family, and together, themselves. Summers were always at the cottage on Keuka Lake. Jud and Lorraine met many of their life-long friends square dancing. Lorraine used to ride Joyce and Lee to the end of the Bluff in the aluminum boat nearly every day when they were small, while at the lake. The children learned to swim and ski; there were many bonfires by the shoreline.

Lorraine and Jud loved to travel. At Easter, Lorraine and Jud always took a vacation with the family. Places of interest included Washington, D.C., Myrtle Beach, S.C., Williamsburg, Va., Jeckel Island, Georgia, and numerous trips to Florida. By this time, Lorraine's parents Harry and Annabel Barth had a trailer in Avon Park, Florida. Visits would often be there, and the family often rented a house or motel rooms on the Gulf coast of Florida, including Anna Maria Island, Siesta Key, and Longboat Key.

Lorraine and Jud had a zest for life. They had numerous vacations to Europe, after the children were out of high school, including a trip to Europe in 1973, and trips to Spain in 1976 (Portugal was omitted due to Civil War), Greece, Yugoslovia, Ireland, England, France, and Italy. Many of these trips were group ventures with their numerous square dancing friends. They took their children to Hawaii in 1973, after Lee was out of High School, and Joyce out of Nursing School. This was a two-week trip to the big island of Hawaii, Maui, Kauai, and Oahu, with an overnight stopover in Los Angeles on the way home. Lorraine and Jud returned to Bermuda via a cruise for their 25th wedding anniversary. The summer before Jud's sudden and untimely death, Lorraine and Jud went to Europe, and were joined for 10 days by Joyce and Lee. They rented a car, and met Joyce and Lee in Munich. They visited Insbrook and Salzburg Austria, and went down to enjoy the sights and history around Venice, Italy. It was a beautiful trip spent staying in bed and breakfasts.

Lorraine is a great seamstress. She made clothes for herself and her children. She enjoys crafts, her friends and familly, her home, antiques, and rubber stamp art and card making. She and Joyce went on the First Annual Rubber Stamp Cruise to the Carribbean in 1996.
